Standing with Our Teachers: Earning the Alamance Burlington Association of Educators Endorsement

Our campaign is honored to announce that we have received the official Alamance Burlington Association of Educators endorsement in the race for North Carolina House District 63!

As a local affiliate of the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE), the Alamance Burlington Association of Educators (ABAE) represents the teachers, instructional assistants, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, and specialized support personnel who educate and care for children across Alamance County every single day. Fiscal Honesty in Education

Strong public schools are the absolute bedrock of our local economy and property tax stability. Local businesses cannot recruit top talent, and our neighborhoods cannot thrive, if our public school pipeline is chronically underfunded:

  • Public Dollars for Public Schools: I fiercely oppose the General Assembly’s unchecked expansion of private school vouchers, which siphon essential tax dollars directly out of the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS) and shift financial shortfalls onto local property taxpayers.

  • A Proven Pay Strategy: On the Burlington City Council, I haven't just talked about competitive pay; I have advocated for, budgeted for, and taken the tough votes to keep municipal wages near the 80th percentile to retain top-tier talent. North Carolina must adopt this exact same executive strategy for our educators.

  • Fair Compensation for All Staff: In Raleigh, I will fight to raise base teacher pay to meet or exceed the national average, reinstate Master’s and advanced degree pay, and guarantee a true livable wage for classified K-12 staff.

  • Restoring Local Control: I will advocate to repeal the state’s rigid school calendar mandate so local boards like ABSS have the flexibility to schedule exams before winter break and better align with local community college programs.

Earning the Alamance Burlington Association of Educators endorsement proves that when we stand up for our educators, we stand up for the future of Alamance County.
