Breaking Ground on Hope Village: Expanding Affordable Housing in Alamance County

Putting smart planning into action produces real, tangible results for our community. I was thrilled to join community leaders and the Burlington Housing Authority to officially break ground on the new Hope Village development at 627 N. Church Street!

This milestone represents a deeply collaborative investment in the future of our city. The first phase of Hope Village will deliver 12 new duplexes, laying the foundation for additional phases that will expand residential options even further. Smart Growth and Municipal Leadership

Securing more affordable housing in Alamance County is not just an equity issue; it is an economic necessity. Local businesses cannot recruit and retain talented workers if families are priced out of the neighborhoods where they work.

This groundbreaking builds directly on more than a decade of work we have led in Burlington as Mayor and on the City Council:

Modernizing Local Ordinances: Streamlining outdated zoning and development codes to remove unnecessary bureaucratic red tape.
Enabling Collaborative Investment: Partnering municipal resources with public authorities and private initiatives to turn blueprints into shovel-ready projects.
Prioritizing Workforce Solutions: Ensuring new residential construction directly addresses the supply shortage facing working families, civil servants, and young professionals.

Taking Practical Planning to Raleigh

As a Master Planner and local executive, I know that solving our housing challenges requires practical leadership, not partisan talking points. While politicians in Raleigh push top-down preemption bills that strip cities of their planning tools, projects like Hope Village prove that local communities know best how to design their own neighborhoods.

In the NC General Assembly, I will champion smart growth policies and flexible state funding that empower our hometowns to build sustainable, accessible housing without sacrificing local prosperity.
